[Publications] The Vampire Diaries reviews

Well, that was an interesting first season, wasn’t it? Despite my problems with the show and its treatment of women in particular — and despite the fact that it is sometimes ridiculous — I really like it and am looking forward to next season, though I definitely need a break from its issues for awhile.

However, here are the last of the reviews I wrote for Innsmouth Free Press:

+ Control is an Illusion: Review: The Vampire Diaries 1.18: “Under Control”

+ That’s a Miss, Mystic Falls: Review of The Vampire Diaries 1.19: “Miss Mystic Falls”

+ Family Can Really Suck: The Vampire Diaries 1.20: “Blood Brothers”

+ Mommy Dearest: The Vampire Diaries 1.21: “Isobel”

+ (Kill All the) Founders Day: The Vampire Diaries 1.22: “Founders’ Day”

Wow, you can really tell I’m horrible at titles and running out of vampire puns at this point. (In part because the show was using the puns as titles already.)

So what did you all think of The Vampire Diaries season one? Will you be watching season two? If you haven’t watched season one yet, do you plan on catching up over the break?

This is a show I ads for, laughed at the cheese, and never thought about again (though I think I did watch one episode, just to say I gave it a shot).

I haven't gone to read your articles yet, so hopefully I'm not asking you to repeat yourself. Is it as super ridiculous as the ads make it look? Ought I actually give it a chance?

It is not as ridiculous as the ads make it look. The ads are horrible and just -- gah. I hate the ads. The show can be pretty ridiculous, especially early episodes, but it settled into a really enjoyable show by, oh, halfway through all the way to the end. I think you'd probably like it at least somewhat, if you can ignore the fact that many, many, many awesome women die. (It's weird in some ways, because in order for so many awesome women to die, the show has to have a ton of awesome women in the first place, which it does.)

I look forward to your thoughts on it!

I made it through about 2 episodes before deciding it was too ridiculous. Ha ha.

Hee! It is pretty ridiculous at times, especially in early episodes!
