[books] POC book recommendations
Inspired by this incredible list, here are some of my favorite books by POC authors that aren't mentioned in that list.

+ Mud Woman: Poems From the Clay by Nora Naranjo-Morse (Nora is an incredible speaker as well. One of my favorite memories from undergrad is discussing poetry with her over dinner after she gave this fantastic presentation about her art.)
+ The Lakota Way by Joseph Marshall III (Another of my favorite memories is talking about the Torrance Tartars [the mascot of the high school where parts of Buffy the Vampire Slayer were filmed] with him over dinner. How we got onto that topic, I don't know, but he was funny and very kind.)
+ The Dance House: Stories from Rosebud by Joseph Marshall III
+ Graffiti Girl by Kelly Parra
+ Invisible Touch by Kelly Parra (This book gives me chills each time I read it, and I've read it three times in the last month.)
+ Down to the Bone by Mayra Lazara Dole (This book. I cannot say enough about this book. Plus after I posted a brief review on Good Reads (here), the author was super nice, which is always a plus. This is another book I reread frantically. This is the book I went to buy after my car was broken into this summer because I knew I needed to read something I loved and this is what I wanted. Stop reading this list and go order this book now. You'll thank me.) (Also, Karen, she's looking forward to Guardian of the Dead.)
+ Sofi Mendoza’s Guide to Getting Lost in Mexico by Malín Alegría
+ Estrella's Quinceanera by Malín Alegría
+ The Battle of Jericho by Sharon M. Draper (This book kind of broke my heart.)
+ November Blues by Sharon M. Draper (I love this book even more than the first. And apparently there's going to be a third book! I'm so glad I looked at her website on a whim just now.)
+ Chasing the Jaguar by Michele Dominguez Greene

So what are some of your faves?
